Specify Design Live Loads

I have a simple span void slab girder bridge. I checked HL-93 under Design Limit States, and unchecked all the rest. But when I go to the Edit Library, there is no HL-93 listed in Vehicular Live Load, and OL1 and OL2 are checked. I am attaching my file here.

Thank you for the help!

HL93 is built in. It isn't

HL93 is built in. It isn't configurable from the library. OL1 and OL2 are WSDOT overload vehicles. They have a check mark by them because they are used for load rating.

What is your question?

Hi Rick, Thank you for the

Hi Rick,

Thank you for the fast response. I was not sure if HL-93 load was checked since I do not see it is there. Do I understand right that it is there although it is not shown in the library? I just post another one at the same time as your response. I made a new live load same as HL-93 and used that one. I think that should be okay as well, right?

Thanks,

I just tried to add the HL-93

I just tried to add the HL-93 load myself. It does not let me to name the new entry as HL-93, saying it is a reserved name. When I enter the name as HL -93 (with a spacing between L and 9), the HL-93 load automatically popped up in the new entry. Now HL -93 in library is checked after I checked it under Design Limit States. I would not duplicate HL-93 with HL -93 this way, right? Why OL1 and OL2 are still checked? I am attaching my updated file here.

Thank you.

The live load named "HL-93"

The live load named "HL-93" is built in and matches the HL-93 loading in the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. "HL -93" is your loading and it can be anything you want. A check mark will appear next to it in the Library view if the load is used in your project. I'm not sure why you need to create your own HL-93 live load.

OL1 and OL2 are check because they are used for Load Rating. The live load for the load rating is controlled in the Load Rating Options window. On the Permit tab, you'll see that OL1 and OL2 are selected as vehicles to be analyzed for permit load rating with special vehicles.

Hi Rick,

I made my own since I did not see one in the library :-). But after your explanation, I see what is going on. Thank you very much for the help.

Have a nice weekend!
