Number of Debonded Strands

Hi Rick,

AASHTO LRFD 8th Edition Section 5.9.4.3.3 recommends that number of partially debonded stands not exceed 25% of the total number of strands. But in the commentary, it also says greater percentages of debonded strands can be greater, but the shear resistance in the region should be thoroughly investigated. I am wondering if the program checked the shear resistance per the code requirement if I use greater percentages of debonded strands?

Thanks,
Yan Liu

PGSuper always check shear

PGSuper always check shear resistance, regardless of the number of strands that are debonded.
