Features and Limitations

  • Follows the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Bridge Design and Drafting Manual, May 2019 except as noted below
  • Implements ODOT OR-STP-5BW and OR-STP-4E permit truck for Strength II checks
  • Allowable tension for Service III check is 3*sqrt(f'c) for all structures. Higher limit must be explored by manually modifying Project Criteria for continuous structures if desired.
  • Girder lifting and hauling are not considered. This is left up to fabricators per ODOT request
  • Does not apply shear skew correction factor to interior beams (see ODOT 1.4.2)
  • Sidewalk load is applied concurrently with design live load. This is conservative and deviates from ODOT 1.3.3
  • Interior diaphragms are not applied automatically (see ODOT 1.5.6.2.8 Diaphragm Beams)
  • Effect of top strands are used for shear and moment capacity. ODOT detail says they should not be.
  • Additional bar length for Rebar Development is not considered per ODOT 1.5.5.1.13
  • Dimensioning check fails for box beam webs at shear key. This is probably an invalid failure that can be ignored since the web thickness is less than 5" for a very short distance.
  • Load Rating criteria is pure per AASHTO MBE and does not consider any ODOT specialization
